Hey There PopRockers! A pretty cool band from Newcastle – The Goon Gremlins, have just dropped a fun little track “Jesus was a Goon Sack” and their fans are loving it.
The song is about the band’s favourite boxed wine, which they call “goon sack.” They think it’s really special, almost like it’s magical or divine.
The Goon Gremlins started in 2022 with their first song called “Dumb.” They’ve been getting really popular on the East Coast because they’re funny and put on great shows. People love their silly attitude and lively performances.
Their new song, “Jesus Was A Goon Sack,” is super fun and full of energy. It has a raw, fuzzy garage rock sound that makes you want to dance. The song sounds a bit like the bands Teen Jesus and The Jean Teasers and Amyl And The Sniffers.
The band loves to joke around. This song is a funny way to show how much they like their goon sack. They sing about it like it’s the best thing ever, making their fans laugh and have a good time. They even say it’s so amazing, it’s like it has a special connection to something divine or heavenly!
“Jesus Was A Goon Sack is a testament to the holy substance, spawned from God Himself, the mighty goon sack. Coined in 1965 in South Australia, the ultimate vessel to distribute wine to the people, the silver pillow IS the second coming of Christ. For years Jesus has been misrepresented as a white man and subsequently used as a tool of oppression against countless identities. But as we celebrate the goon sack, which brings only joy and humility, the image of Jesus once again aligns with true Divine values.”
GOON GREMLINS
The GoonGremlins have been working really hard playing lots of live shows over the past few years. They’ve played with other cool bands. These bands include Teen Jesus and The Jean Teasers, Pacific Avenue, The Moving Stills, Rum Jungle, and Raave Tapes. These shows have helped them become more popular and get noticed by more people.
They’ve also played at big festivals like Gum Ball, West Best Block Fest, and Spring Fest. Lots of people have got to see them perform at these events. Plus, their songs have been played on the radio. Stations like Triple J, Triple J Unearthed, 2SER, and Newcastle Live have featured their music. This radio support has helped them reach even more fans and share their music with a wider audience.
“We wanted the song to sound big. Patty improvised some huge guitar sounds in the studio to elevate the energy, especially alongside Harry’s crazy bass lines. Cat basically smashed out the drums in three takes, even though she had it in the first. She also had the idea of using biblical samples such as the heavenly ahh’s as well as enlisting our friend Elias Flamiatos to write and preach a fire and brimstone style verse to introduce the song.”
