Bel Kil is back with her latest track, “Kinda Funny.” This playful yet introspective anthem emerged from the mixed reactions to Bel’s decision to chase her dreams as a producer and performer.
With its upbeat rhythms and thought-provoking lyrics, the song captures Bel Kil’s unique ability to infuse both fun and depth into her music. The chorus, “You look at me and think girl your crazy dreams are kinda funny / I look at you and think boy there’s more to life than chasing money,” captures the essence of the track, emphasising the value of following your heart.
Bel shares, “I think it was a reaction to observing people’s sceptical ‘oh’s’ and genuine ‘oh wows!’ when I told them I had quit my job to follow my dreams of producing music.”
Growing up on a farm in the Northern Grampians, Bel Kil was surrounded by a family with a deep love of music. Her inquisitive mind led to a childhood filled with constructing, creating, and playing guitar. Bel’s expansive style draws from multiple genres, decades, and influences while maintaining a modern pop edge, as noted by Alex Callan of Forte Mag. This November, her love of music and community has inspired her to curate her own festival in rural Victoria, in the town of Ararat.
‘Kinda Funny’ was mastered by Joe Carra of Crystal Mastering, a Grammy-nominated mastering engineer who has worked with Pond, The Teskey Brothers, King Gizzard, Bias B, The Murlocs, Pipe-Eye, and Courtney Barnett.
