We were lucky enough to see Thelma Plum at the Rechabite in Perth as part of her ‘I’m Sorry, Where Is That?’ regional tour. We know Perth isn’t regional, but it’s far enough away from the other capital cities that other artists just don’t turn up, so we were pretty lucky to have Thelma come to us.

It was Tuesday night, Remember when Tuesdays use to be the night to get all your specials, Tight Arse Tuesdays’ was a thing, because generally it’s the quietest day of the week for socialising, but not tis Tuesday it was a packed house at the Rechabite.

Elianie

To start the night, WA Songstress Elianie, A young and upcoming star who won a JJJ competition to open for Thelma Plum.

The crowd to start was small, but that didn’t stop Elianie from putting on a performance that exceeded her youth and experience.

Oh, before we get too far along, Elianie is pronounced El-ee-ah-nee. So, make sure you add her to your streaming lists.

 Elianie played:

  • Keep On Waiting – From Her EP ‘call my own’
  • Hit and Miss
  • Out Of Luck
  • My Mind – From Her EP ‘call my own’
  • Apathetic
  • Dancing Queen – Acoustic
  • Enough For Me – From Her EP ‘call my own’
  • Matter Of Time – From Her EP ‘call my own’

Elianie’s performance of Dancing Queen was a great way to showcase her range. It may be a simple pop song, but she made it her own.

Another standout was Apathetic, an unreleased track. All up, it was a flawless performance from an exciting artist from Perth. 10/10.

Ullah

Next up was Ullah, A pop indie Artist and Band again from Perth, hit the stage.

Ullah leads the band, with Members Alanah Linn on Lead Guitar and backing Vocals, Jac Donnelly on Drums, and Omri Samorali on bass.

Together forming a great quartet, that took us on a mystical journey, as the crowd slowly built up. Their performance was raw and youthful, with fragile emotions thrown in.

Ullah didn’t just get up and sing, she took the time to introduce each song.

Ullah’s list (forgive me if I get some titles wrong)

  • Slow Rush – A mesmerising track about her past addiction to energy drinks!
  • Bows and Bells
  • If I were a fish
  • How to Dance Part 1
  • How to Dance Part 2
  • I want It All
  • What Nightmares are made of

Forgive me if I missed a song or two or got the titles wrong; I was too busy enjoying the moment. Ullah’s music is a blend of magical mystery and wonder, with Rock elements thrown in.

If you’re open to letting yourself go and allowing yourself to be immersed in the music, Ullah is for you, and you should seek them out.

A standout was when Ullah herself got everyone to close their eyes and make a wish; she wants to make all your dreams come true.

Thelma Plum

It was then time for Thelma Plum to join us on stage. If you don’t know Thelma, she is an Aboriginal singer, songwriter, and musician from Delungra, New South Wales, but now calls Brisbane home. A true Horse Fan, as she confessed throughout the evening.

The Rechabite went dark, as Thelma made her way to centre stage, with the now packed audience cheering her on, straight into it!

What a performance, for a pop music addict like me, this was bliss. I should be asking Where did the night go, as time just zipped by, because I was having so much fun. Thelma really loved to engage the crowd and included them in the performance.

When I looked around, everyone was smiling, they were happy, they loved Thelma Plum.

If you can get to a regional show, do it! Well, any Thelma Plum Show will do!

Let’s look at the music

  • Wise Man
  • Woke Blokes
  • Don’t Let A Good Girl Down
  • Nobodies Baby
  • Hurricane – Written in Melbourne with G-Flip
  • We don’t Talk About It
  • Freckles
  • When It Rains It Pours
  • All The Pretty Horses
  • Not Angry Any More
  • Backseat of my Mind
  • Homecoming Queen

That was the end of the set, and as Thelma said, it’s where they should have walked off, and the crowd called for one more song, but instead, jokingly, the band just turned their back and got the crowd to play along. Of course, they finished with two more tracks:

  • Clumsy Love
  • Better in Black

There’s not much more I could say, but for a first-time Thelma Plum concert goer, it was awesome, fun, and a time stealer, not that you want that time back, but want it to last longer!

Every Smile, pout, and every lyric from Thelma is captivating and engaging. It was great to see an awesome performer come to Perth for her WA Fans!

Totally Awesome, let’s do it again and soon!

Shout Outs

Before we go, we must do some shout-outs. To the sound and lighting team, awesome job. Adrian Thompson for the Awesome Pics, The Rechabite Mintox Venue! And To Hannah and Janelle at MorsecodePR.
