Imagine if songs you knew didn’t exist, then that music was remixed, covered, and released. Would you like those songs? Well PopRockers, reset that music matrix because we have hunted down some great remixes and covers.
First up is a remix, reimagined of Kate Miller-Heidke’s 2009 hit “Last Day on Earth”. It has been redone by no other than Kate Miller-Heidke but features Marcus Bridge. The original and new versions are great tracks and can stand on their own.
The latter has a bit more of a rock element thrown in and is also a bit more haunting. Oh don’t be put off by the screamo, it fits perfectly.
I really love this version of the song. It reinforces to me that Kate’s voice is really versatile and fits with many genres and music styles. 10 out of 10.
Do you still buy your music? Looking to start a vinyl collection then you need to get it here!
Next, another re-imagining is Kim Petra doing Kate Bushes Running up that hill. Kim is a German singer/songwriter based in the US. Read our article on Kate Bush Here
The new version is pretty much the same as the original, just with a new mix. It’s clean and polished and Kim has done a good job covering the song.
The success of Stranger Things and Kate Bush’s version hitting number one probably prevented Kim’s Version from getting better results.
Next, Back in the year 2000, One track went troppo, Wheatus, Teenage Dirtbag was a global smash.
Let’s Remix the music matrix and hit play on Bookie’s Dirtbag Ft. Wheatus.
It’s Rap/RnB mixed with rock power chords, to me it seems slow when it should be faster. Bookie’s Dirtbag is still a pretty cool variation and has its merits, but nothing beats the original.
Can you spot the lads from Wheatus in the clip?
A final mention,
I wasn’t going to add this one but this is Doja Cat doing Celebrity Skin by Hole.
To me, this is a cookie cutter, a replica of the original, nothing new.
But you might like it. I’m not saying I don’t like this version but at the end of the day, it’s just a cover.
So there you go, remix the music matrix. Let us know what you think of these tracks and any others you know of. Don’t forget to like, love, share, follow, and now subscribe!
