Do you ever remember hearing a song, or listening to songs and thinking is there a story behind that track? Today we are looking back at Fastball “The Way”. You might not know the song in question so have a listen below.
Fastball is an alternative rock band from Austin Texas in the USA. They have released 8 Studio Albums under their belt, but only had one hit in Australia. they released two other tracks but they didn’t peak very well.
When you listen to the track the lyrics tell a story, but do you know what that story is about?
Well, The Way was released back in 1998, from Fastball’s second album “All the Pain Money Can Buy”. Written by the band’s lead vocalist Tony Scalzo. The song is inspired by the disappearance of an elderly couple, who were found dead in their car. The car was found many miles away from its original destination.
The song follows Lela and Raymond Howard from Saldo Texas. They decided to go to a day festival in Temple a nearby town. It should have been a relatively short trip of 15 miles or approx 24 km. They never made it.
Lela 83 and Raymond 88, became disorientated and drove their Oldsmobile off a road in Hot Springs in Arkansas more than 350 miles (563 km), they were found 13 days after leaving home.

As we mentioned the song was off Fastball’s second album, and peaked in Australia at number 14. finishing the year-end charts at position 48 for the year 1998. The track faired better in the US and Canada reaching Number 1 in both countries on numerous charts.
