We just added a new portable turntable to the studio. A simple thing that doesn’t take up much space, it’s one of those trendy ones, you can take with you! So what’s the first album to be played? Ten by Pearl Jam of course.
No less than four memorable classic hits, Ten will go down in history as one of the greatest rock albums of the ’90s and the grunge era. Tracks like Even Flow, Alive. Black and Jeremy just won’t go away.
The song Jeremy was written about a nearly 16-year-old who committed suicide in front of his English class. Jeremy was the third single off the album, it reached position 68 on the ARIA charts but reached number 5 on the US mainstream chart.
I remember years ago, listening to the album with friends, it was on a CD and the sound was crisp and clean. But to truly get the dirty grunge sound, you gotta listen to the album on a cheap turn table. On a cheap Turntable like the one we have, the built-in sound system is not Dolby surround Quality, it’s dirty, perfect for grunge.
It’s dirty in a good way, you get the feel of what grunge was all about.
Another of the great tracks. Alive was written by Stone Gossard when he was part of Mother Love Bone, the song was originally titled “Dollar Short”. When the lead singer of Mother Love Bone, Andrew Wood died of a heroin overdose, the remaining members went about setting up a new band.
Stone set up a demo tape of songs, of which Dollar Short was one. The goal was to find a new singer and drummer for the new band.
The tape made its way to Eddie Vedder, who was working as a security guard. Alive became the first track recorded by Vedder for the new band Pearl Jam!
After the release of Ten, Pearl Jam released another Ten Albums!
Well, that’s it for us on Pearl Jam’s Ten, we could have written a huge essay, but we just want to remind you to go back and listen to the great albums again, as Ten is truly a great album, and listened to on a cheap portable record player!
You can Buy Ten on CD Vinyl or MPS here, or if you want a new turntable click here purchasing from these links helps us keep bringing you content at no extra cost to you.
We hope you enjoyed our trip down memory lane, don’t forget to like, love, share and follow!
