Melbourne’s indie-pop darling Tilly Fenton is turning heads and twisting hearts with her explosive new single “It’s You!”—out now.

This punchy, glitter-drenched anthem marks a bold new chapter for the Naarm-based artist, who’s gearing up to release her debut EP, it’s a feeling that I know, on October 10.

With crunchy guitars, cheeky lyrics, and a wink to early 2000s pop-rock royalty, “It’s You!” is a sonic slap of catharsis.

Fenton’s songwriting sparkles with playful angst, channelling Olivia Rodrigo’s raw energy and Hannah Montana’s unapologetic sass in equal measure.

“I always wanted to write a super upbeat, angsty pop-rock track,” Tilly shares. “After hearing ‘good 4 u,’ I was hooked.”

She adds, “I grew up obsessed with Hannah Montana. That music is engraved in my brain—it shaped how I write and perform.”

From the first riff, “It’s You!” feels like a glitter bomb detonated in a high school hallway—dramatic, delicious, and deeply relatable.

The track captures the moment you stop biting your tongue and finally say what you should’ve said ages ago.

“It’s a love letter to the people who twist things and make you question yourself,” Tilly explains. “It’s not me—it’s you.”

With punchy hooks and confident delivery, the song balances catharsis with cheeky charm, making it a standout in her growing discography.

From Studio Sparks to Stage Magic: The Making of “It’s You!”

Tilly penned “It’s You!” during a session with acclaimed producer Anna Laverty, known for work with Lady Gaga and Nick Cave.

The pair brainstormed lyrics around the classic breakup line “It’s not you, it’s me,” flipping it into something far more empowering.

“I thought it’d be fun to reword it,” Tilly says. “Turning it into ‘It’s not me, it’s you’ felt cheeky and honest.”

She brought the track to producer Michael Belsar and drummer Ben Ellingworth, kicking off a creative process full of experimentation.

Together, they sculpted a sound that’s equal parts pop sparkle and rock grit, with layers that evolve on every listen.

Michael Belsar mixed the track, while mastering duties went to Dale Becker, adding polish without dulling its emotional punch.

The accompanying music video, directed by Jesse Richards, captures the song’s dramatic spirit in a hauntingly empty theatre.

“It’s like performing to no one but yourself,” Tilly says. “It’s freeing—like dancing in your bedroom when no one’s watching.”

The video mirrors the song’s themes of self-empowerment and emotional release, offering fans a visual feast of raw performance.

Shot in a single take, the clip amplifies the track’s message: reclaim your voice, own your story, and sing it loud.

A Coming-of-Age Soundtrack With Bite: Inside the EP

“It’s You!” closes out Tilly’s debut EP; it’s a feeling that I know, a five-track journey through heartbreak, growth, and self-discovery.

Opening with “The Secret,” the EP begins in soft introspection, with Tilly’s vocals floating over dreamy, vulnerable instrumentals.

Midway through, “Valentine” dazzles with driving rhythms and shimmering hooks, offering a euphoric high before the final emotional release.

“It’s You!” lands like a confetti cannon of closure—gritty, jubilant, and unapologetically bold in its storytelling and sonic punch.

“This EP is a coming-of-age story,” Tilly explains. “I wrote these songs while navigating the chaos of growing up.”

She adds, “They’re vulnerable and honest, but always hopeful. I want people to feel comforted and seen when they hear them.”

The EP reflects Tilly’s ability to balance emotional depth with playful confidence, making her a standout voice in indie pop.

Her lyrics speak to the universal experience of growing pains, while her sound channels the nostalgia of early pop-rock icons.

From heartbreak to healing, each track offers a different shade of emotion, wrapped in catchy melodies and polished production.

Listeners can expect a rollercoaster of feelings, with moments to cry, dance, scream, and smile—all in under 20 minutes.

From Bedroom Dreams to Sold-Out Shows: Tilly’s Rise

Since launching her music career in 2023, Tilly Fenton has carved a unique space in Australia’s indie-pop scene.

Working with industry heavyweights like Anna Laverty and Michael Belsar, she’s honed a sound that’s both nostalgic and fresh.

Her influences—Lizzy McAlpine, Gracie Abrams, Phoebe Bridgers—shine through in her emotional honesty and melodic storytelling.

Yet Tilly’s voice remains distinctly her own, blending vulnerability with strength in a way that resonates far beyond her 22 years.

Her debut single, “The Secret,” introduced fans to her introspective side, while “Valentine” showcased her knack for dreamy pop hooks.

The latter even landed on The Hot Hits with Nic and Loren, earning Tilly national radio play and growing buzz.

Earlier this year, she sold out her first headline show at The Bergy Bandroom, a milestone moment for the rising star.

“Performing live is one of my favourite parts of making music,” she says. “It’s where the magic really happens.”

Fans can expect more shows later this year, with Tilly promising high-energy sets mixed with intimate acoustic moments.

Her live performances mirror her music—raw, joyful, and deeply connected to the audience, creating unforgettable shared experiences.

What’s Next for Tilly Fenton?

With “It’s You!” out now, and it’s a feeling that I know dropping October 10, Tilly Fenton is poised for a breakout moment.

Her blend of cheeky pop-rock and heartfelt storytelling hits the sweet spot between nostalgia and innovation.

She’s not just writing songs—she’s crafting soundtracks for the messy, magical moments of growing up and finding your voice.

Whether you’re screaming “It’s not me, it’s you!” in your car or dancing alone in your bedroom, Tilly’s music hits home.

Stay tuned for more live shows, behind-the-scenes content, and exclusive drops as the EP release date approaches.

Tilly Fenton is the indie-pop artist Australia didn’t know it needed—but now can’t stop listening to.
