Hey PopRockers! Last night, Magnet House was alive with electrifying energy as The Coronas took to the stage, delivering a performance that left the crowd buzzing with excitement. The room, brimming with fans donning Tommy Hilfiger shirts and a fair share of lively Irish lasses, erupted in cheers as the band made their entrance. The deafening roar of the crowd was nothing short of astonishing—arguably even louder than the reception Kid Laroi received the previous week!
The Coronas
If you’re not familiar with The Coronas, let me fill you in. Hailing from Dublin, Ireland, this band has been a staple in the Irish music scene since 2007 when they dropped their debut album, Heroes or Ghosts. To give you a sense of their significance, imagine what Cold Chisel means to Australians—that’s the kind of connection The Coronas have with Irish fans. Their songs, much like Khe Sanh, inspire audiences to sing their hearts out, and last night in Perth was no exception.
From the very first note, lead singer Danny O’Reilly and his bandmates exuded charm and charisma. Their signature blend of pop-rock anthems and power ballads had the audience rocking all night. It’s no wonder these guys have such a devoted following back in Ireland. After all, they famously beat out both The Script and U2 for Best Irish Album at the 2010 Meteor Awards—no small feat!
The night kicked off with “Confirmation” from their latest album, Thoughts and Observations, setting the tone for an incredible set. Over the course of the evening, The Coronas seamlessly mixed fresh tracks with beloved classics, delivering a well-rounded show that catered to fans both old and new. Six tracks from their newest release were sprinkled throughout the setlist, including a standout performance of “That’s Exactly What Love Is,” where Róisín O (Danny’s Sister) stepped in for Gabrielle Aplin.
Back Catalog
But it wasn’t just the new material that stole the show. Tracks from across their extensive discography—spanning eight albums—made their way into the setlist.
For 90 electrifying minutes, The Coronas delivered a 20-song set that was nothing short of breath-taking. And just when we thought it was over, the crowd erupted into chants, demanding more. And The Coronas didn’t disappoint. Returning to the stage for a four-song encore.
One of the most remarkable things about The Coronas is the bond they build with their fans, no matter where they are in the world. Danny O’Reilly’s charm and genuine connection with the audience made every person in the venue feel like they were part of something special. It’s not just the music—it’s the way they make you feel like family, even if it’s your first time seeing them live.
Final Thought’s
At PopRock Radio, we usually rate performances on a scale of 1 to 10, but honestly, last night’s show surpassed any numerical rating. It was awe-inspiring, and the kind of performance that leaves other bands taking notes. The Coronas showed Perth what a truly world-class live act looks like.
Here’s hoping it won’t be too long before these Irish legends make their way back to Australia. If you get the chance to see The Coronas live, do yourself a favour and go. It’s a night you won’t soon forget!
