No, Huey Lewis’s song The Power of Love, isn’t the song we are talking about. The one we are talking about has a number of versions. It’s a power ballad from the ’80s that lived well into the ’90s.
The original version was recorded and co-written by Jennifer Rush in 1984. The Power of Love hit number one in Australia and around the world. The Australian Music chart had the song finishing the year in the 23rd spot.
The next version was by Australian Duo Air Supply. The Gender roles were reversed in their version of the song. Air Supply released their version in 1985. Air Supply’s version didn’t do well on the Australian Charts. However, it did better in New Zealand and Canada. To stop any confusion with Huey Lewis’s song The Power of Love, Air Supply Changed the Name to The Power Of Love( You Are My Lady).
The next version is by the late and great Laura Branigan. Her 1987 fifth studio album touch, cemented this song as a power ballad. Laura sadly passed away in 2004 in her sleep.
Another great power ballad Artist is Alanis Morrissette, read more about this here
The thing about the Power of Love, it’s a gift that keeps on giving. In 1993 for her third English-language studio album. Celine Dion did a version of TPOL. This version is probably the one most people remember. It was Celine’s first-ever US hit. TPOL sold over 900 000 copies.
We cant end this article without sharing the other power of love. Here is the other version by Huey Lewis and the News. You might remember this from the movie “Back to the Future starring Michael J Fox”. Huey Lewis had a cameo in the movie, do you know where and what he said?
As always We hope you like love share and follow! Till next time stay safe!
