Continuing on with our series of Songs We Love To Hate. This week we look at Shake It, by Metro Station.

Shake It was released as the third single and English debut single from their self-titled studio album. In Australia,”Shake it” peaked at number 2 on the ARIA charts. Number 6 on the UK singles, and number 10 on the US Billboard Top 100.

Why do we love to hate “Shake It”? It’s an earworm, that’s why it’s a classic bubble gum pop song that gets stuck in your head. Once in your head, the only way out is with another song…

Metro Station had another great pop song, Seventeen forever. We could also class that in Songs We love To hate, but we will get to that one in due course.

Back to Metro Station, it’s no wonder they had a few hits. Trace Cyrus co-wrote the song, you might know Traces’ other family members, Miley, and Bill-Ray. The other three writers are Masson Musso, Blake Healy and Anthony Improgo.

Shake It

Even though “Shake it” is a pop song in every sense, it is classified in the genre’s Neon Pop Punk and Emo.

There’s not much more to say about “Shake it”, except now it’s in your head. You know it’s there with the opening lines.

Let’s drop!

Yeah, come on

Shake, shake

I’ll take you home if you don’t leave me at the front door

Your body’s cold but girl we’re getting so warm

Shake It Metro Sytation

It’s not about dancing…

Now if you didn’t know, the song isn’t actually about dancing or shaking your booty, it’s about something else. We don’t want to spoil it for you but for you, adults have a quick think, and for the rest of you, um yeah, it’s about dancing.

The Video Clip

The video clip was inspired by fan videos. of the fan videos. 63 were included on the Metro Station youtube channel. The band has commented that the final product was based on the cult film The Warriors, with rival dance crews in place of gangs.
