Music We Love To Hate

Why are some songs so good they are bad? What makes a song so good we love to hate it? Well in this case it’s not just the song it’s the whole band!

Why do people love to hate Nickleback? Is it their catchy tunes? Is it their bubblegum pop-rock songs? Either way, I bet you hum along with tunes like Photograph.

Back in 2005 When Photograph was released it became a meme. “What the hell is on Joey’s head”…. You can read more about the meme here.

“Photograph” is off Nicklebacks Fifth studio album “All The Right Reasons”

The song is mostly autobiographical. Singer Chad Kroeger said, “It’s just nostalgia, growing up in a small town, and you can’t go back to your childhood. Saying goodbye to friends that you’ve drifted away from, where you grew up, where you went to school, who you hung out with, and the dumb stuff you used to do as a kid, the first love — all of those things. Everyone has one or two of those memories that they are fond of, so this song is really just the bridge for all that.”

Wikipedia

“Photograph hit the top ten in a number of countries, peaking at number 3 on the Australian Aria charts, Number 1 in Canada, UK, and the USA.

“Photograph” is a song we love to hate, but it’s one we love more than hate. But as a whole, we love to hate Nickleback because they chose to make hits and sticking with a formula rather than write and perform critically acclaimed music.

At the end of the day, Nickleback made commercial success and there’s nothing wrong with that. Think of artists like Kylie Minogue, not a critically acclaimed songwriter but a great performer. But it’s so easy to dis on Nickleback. The friendly Canadian rock band!
