These tracks were big in their day, some still are in our minds. When was the last time you heard one of these great tracks.

Place your hands

Place your hands by Reef from the album Glow Released in 1996. The song explains the grief that vocalist Gary Stringer felt following the death of his grandfather, and easing the pain of death.

Not an Addict

Not an addict by K’s Choice of the 1995 album Paradise in me. It was written by the band’s core members—siblings Gert and Sam (then known as Sarah) Betten. Produced by Jean Blaute, and recorded at Jet Studios in Brussels. Sam revealed he was a transgender man.

Good

From the Band Better than Ezra, and was from the album Deluxe released in 1993. “Good” was featured in a trailer for the 1995 film The Baby-Sitters Club, the 1998 film Dirty Work and on an episode of Hindsight.

I alone

A track from the boys from Live, released in 1994 from the album Throwing Copper. Live performed “I Alone” at the Woodstock ’99 festival on July 23, 1999 in New York. The song featured in TV shows Homicide: Life on the Street, Beavis and Butt-head, Hindsight, My So-Called Life, and Silicon Valley.

Malibu

Released in 1998, off the Celebrity Skin album. Love has stated that the song was actually written about her first boyfriend, Jeff Mann. Whom she lived with in Malibu the late mid-1980s

Everything you want

A great track from Verticle Horizon. Released in 1999, it was a breakthrough album for the band. Four singles were released from the album. The second single, “Everything You Want”, became one of the most played singles of 2000.

Interstate Love Song

From Stone Temple Pilots, Interstate Love Song is from the album Purple. Stone Temple Pilots recorded the song during sessions for Purple at the Southern Tracks studio in Atlanta, Georgia. Weiland was able to complete his vocals for the song in one take.

Devils Diary

A one hit wonder from 1995 The Caufields realeased one album Whirlgig. The band toured Australia on the back of airplay on popular youth radio station Triple J, supporting Australian band Died Pretty. You can read more about this track here.

Someday we’ll know

Yep we will, from the New Radicals album, Maybe you’ve been brain washed. The New Radicals dissolved before the singles release, and failed to match the success of their previous hit You get what you give.

Two Princes

Of the album Pocket Full Of Kryptonit by the Spin Doctors. The song earned them a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group.

The Freshman

Released in 1996 The Freshman was from The Verve Pipes album – Villans. Singer Song writer Vander Ark said: It’s for the most part a made-up story, which most of my songs are. These are stories that I come up with, and I do characters.

If you could only see

Finishing our list with Tonic’s If you could only see. In an Australian television program (Live at the Chapel), Tonic lead vocalist Emerson Hart elucidated the meaning of this song. He stated that he had been in a relationship with an older woman and that his family did not approve of that relationship, and this song was written about that situation and was directed at his family.
