Hey PopRockers, have we got news for you? And it’s all so great! Let’s start by saying we have exclusive pictures from Sheppards’ Show at the Astor Theatre in Perth. Sheppard bought their Zora Album concert to Perth on Tuesday 29th October 2024, yes folks it was a school night!
What made it special was we were the only ones there to review one of the greatest-ever Australian Pop Bands of the modern Pop era.
There was something else that made it even more special, and we got the shot to prove it. Thanks to our ever-trusty photographer Caris.
If you know Sheppard and follow their socials, you would know them as George, Amy and Emma. Let’s break this down, George is like a little kid in a man’s body, full of energy, colour, and presence. Amy the blue-haired Country Pop Artist, and Emma, the youngest of the siblings tie them all together.
As the saying goes a family that sings together stays together! But the Zora Tour is more than just three Siblings, no, it also includes, their Husbands and Wife. Hey, let’s not stop there. This was an occasion, this was the first time their family had been in the same room for many years. So this show was a family affair for the whole family. It was amazing how the crowd varied in age, from the young to the more mature of the generations.
From the start of the show, it was hit after hit, not only for the biggest Sheppard fans but for pop music fans. Starting the set with three of their latest tracks. Daylight, Good Time and Sunshine (with Jolyon Petch read about Jolyon Here).
The best thing about Sheppards music is you can hear and feel the energy, if the music was a colour spectrum, Sheppards’ music would be the brightest and most vibrant.
The next three kept the pace up, with Learning to Fly from Kaleidoscope Eyes. Got to be Love and Love Me Tomorrow from Zora. before each Track Either George, Amy or Emma introduced the song with a story, Learning to Fly releasing our inner Peter Pan, or how a VIP asked about how they fight writer’s block, and they answered with Got to be love, a springboard song, they just get in a room and springboard ideas, and music comes, it may not make sense straight away, but you as the listener can make it what you want.
The hits kept coming, Keep me crazy, LMDE ( Let me Down Easy), respect and Die Young. We found out how George got bad news from his Doctor, he went home to the girls, and this is the end of Sheppard, as the joke went, that’s why Amy went country! But lucky for us It wasn’t the end.
The music continued Comming Home, and back to Zora with Running Straight To You.
Did you wonder how they came up with the name Zora for their latest album? Well, it’s a homage to their roots, Zora is Croatian for Dawn. Dancing on the Sun, was the first song on the album, looking for a name for the album, Emma’s husband suggested they look to their roots, and see what Dawn meant in Croation, which is Zora, which just happened to be the name of their Grandmother, who just happened to be in the front row!
Next Love like that, a track that wasn’t going to be on the Zora album until their mum said if it’s not on the album they are out, It made the album! So now I guess that’s an anthem for all mums out there!
The final three songs “Symphony” from Kaleidoscope Eyes, Then back to Zora with The Gift, And Edge of the Earth. There you go, 18 Tracks of our pop, toe-tapping, arms up bouncing and dancing. It was a great night, one where the crowd had just as much fun as George Amy and Emma, did on stage. Like I said again, George Had the energy all the way through, Amy Bopping like a pop princess, and Emma slapped the bass stitching up the package that is Sheppard. As a side note, Throughout the review, I have said George, Amy and Emma in that order, but take anyone out of the equation and it’s no longer Sheppard but these guys are all class act musicians in each of their skin.
Yep the crowd chanted they wanted one more song, and Sheppard didn’t let us down. The encore was a cover of All The Small Things by Blink 182. I was told by a Blink fan that Sheppard’s performance was the best he had seen of the song. Now what’s a Sheppard show without Geronimo. The final Track Play on the Moon.
And just like that, It was over and Sheppard was off, headed East and away from WA. But don’t stress, There’s an opportunity for them to come back to WA all you need to do is scan this QR code and register for An Evening With Sheppard exclusive music event, where you can get up close and personal.
Another awesome show. We are lucky to be invited to the best shows in town, and we reckon this is one of the best shows, the best bands, and the best music. It’s 100% Pop and Sheppard knows how to get you moving and Pop is what they do best. 10/10.
