People say nothing good came out of covid, But I beg to differ. With the onset of covid, and as the clubs and live acts dried up, we wondered whether the music scene would be the same again.
Now the covid restrictions have been dropped, and we venture out again, I feel the gift of covid. It’s that tingling sensation you get when you are about to do something big, something special. The last time I felt like this was going to my very first concert.
Now after what seems like a lifetime ago, that feeling is back. Not just for me and not just for the music fans, but for the artists. But what makes tonight so special is that it’s the follow-up to our Phil Jamieson podcast and interview.
Tonight, Phil is back on stage, doing what he does best, and that’s performing.
From the start, Phil doesn’t disappoint, bringing his devilish style, the cool calm and collected rock star that he is controlling the stage.
His smooth voice calls you in for a great time. And yes, that’s what I had. The night was simply the best I could imagine, that the tingling sensation, I mentioned before had gone from excitement to one of pure joy, not just for me but for Phil’s legion of fans. The crowd went crazy when he came on stage. Some of the audience are yelling out song requests. The crowd lapped up every moment, every note.
His guitar work is next to none. Working alongside Davey Lane was a great match-up.
The drummer was very tight and the bass was at the right level. Occasionally I would pick up on a Led Zeppelin moment in a few of his tracks. Also, it’s been a very long time since I’ve heard Phil’s voice live (in Grinspoon) and to hear the amazing vocal range Phil Jamieson has. Reminds me of Freddy Mercury’s vocal range.
Tonight’s show was pure class and classic Phil Jamieson, it rocked the house down. I can’t remember the last time I went to a show and had to squeeze past the punters, you couldn’t have fit any more people in the audience. Takes me back to happy times of going to what looked like to be, a sell-out gig. And the people are there for the music, so you get a really nice crowd of people. Vinnie’s Bar in Southport, Gold Coast, recently open a larger hall and big stage, I believe they’ve done an excellent job
All in all, I had a fantastic time. Phil knows how to engage with the audience well, and can sing incredibly, few times he went hard-core on his guitar, pulled the harmonica out as well and took the time to speak with the audience (which they loved), before moving on to the next song. His new single, ‘Lights On’ gets released Friday 29th July.
There are only a few shows left so if I were you, I would head to one of Phil’s upcoming shows, see a list of dates and locations here
You won’t be disappointed at all.
