Grinspoon – Easy Detention Tour

Hey PopRockers, we are in the middle of a rock tour bonanza. and smack bang right in the middle is Aussie Rockers Grinspoon. With only a few more shows of the Easy Detention Tour remaining and even fewer that are not sold out, it’s best to get your tickets now or miss out on an experience that you won’t forget.

We were lucky to see Phil, Pat, Joe and Kris in all their glory, performing hits from 1999’s Easy and 2002’s New Detention, at the Astor Theatre in Perth. The Lads didn’t let the crowd down and also performed several fan favourites such as Chemical Heart.

After what seemed like an eternity without touring bands, it seems we have been blessed with the choice. If you get a chance, you need to see the showmanship of Phil Jamieson, his presence on stage is one of the best in the business. It has been said the late Michael Hutchence was one of the best but tonight Phil would have given him a run for his money.

Don’t Change Grinspoon

Halfway through the show Phil raced off stage, only to appear at the back, by the sound desk, and did a duet of Don’t Change by INXS. The crowd couldn’t help but join in, Im not sure if the crowd knew what he did, but we caught it on video.

Grinners kept the crowd pumped for over 90 minutes, a number of the crowd even did a bit of surfing! All up I felt I had gone back in time, I was reminded that rock music is good, and it doesn’t matter where you are from, or where you fit, rock music will always be there to lift you up.

The Easy Detention Tour at The Astor was jam-packed with hit after hit, loads of flashing lights, and of course loud music. I don’t know if Grinspoon knows where the volume control is, because it was loud, I hope I don’t need a hearing test any time soon.

Phil’s energetic stage presence takes the show to a new level, Frontmen of bands take note, if you want to be a master of your craft, watch Phil, over and over again. That’s why people go to shows.

Pat on guitar, was as slick as ever, while Joe on bass guitar isn’t your laid-back bassist, no he rocks that bass like he is playing lead. And at the back, keeping time was Kris, rock music isn’t rock without drums, loud drums, loads of cymbals loads of kicks, did I mention loud?

Drawing to a close

As the night came to a close, the crowd wasn’t quite satisfied and chanted for one more song, which the guys from Grinspoon obliged, with a two-song encore, finally filling the crowd with their fill from the Grinspoon.

The night was rocking and the punters were buzzing as they left. The comments from people as they filed out on the street, were nothing but mint, mintox even!

As I made my way out of the venue, I jumped on the phone to organise my lift, the crowd and the noise spilled out into the street, I crossed the road to get some quiet, and stopped at the lights, there in front looking back at me from inside the car, was Phil and the Lads, a quick wave of appreciation, to the awesome rockers, and they were off.
