One of the greatest Duos of all time is the Eurythmics. Their origin is London in the UK, but they actually formed in Australia. In an Interview with Noise11 Dave Stewart confirms that in a bar in Wagga Wagga NSW. Together with a mini synthesiser He and Annie Lennox knew they were interested in doing something together.

During that time, Annie and Dave were part of a band called “The Tourists” they had their first hit in Australia with a cover of “I only want to be with you”

I Only want to be with you

Success

Annie and Dave released their first album as the Eurythmics in 1981 “In The Garden“, but it wasn’t until 1983 they really hit it big with the single, Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This), off the album of the same name.

Together they went on to release classic hits “Thorn in my side”, “When Tomorrow Comes”, “There must be an angel” and many more.

In Australia, they had 6 top ten hits, with “Would I lie to you” reaching Number 1. By the time they split up in 1990, they had amassed 18 Top 40 Hits in Australia.

Over the next few years, there were rumours that Dave and Annie would reform as the Eurythmics. They eventually reformed in 1999 to release the album “Peace“. They reunited twice more, once in 2014 for a ‘Beatles” tribute concert, and again in 2019 for Sting’s 30th “We’ll be together” benefit concert.

Hall Of Fame

In May 2022 the Eurythmic were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame. They were inducted alongside Pat Benatar, Duran Duran, Eminem, Lionel Ritchie and Carly Simon. See the full list here

Their only number one hit in Australia, “Would I Lie to You”, was released in 1985. W-I-L-T-Y from their fourth studio album “Be Yourself Tonight”. What made this song unique is that it is a clear change in direction of their music style. The Eurythmics change from a Synth Pop Sound to a more Rock and R and B sound.

Would I l Lie to You

In total, the Eurythmics released 9 Studio Albums. Both Dave and Annie have had success with amazing solo careers, which we will look at in future articles.

As always we hope you enjoyed this brief walk down memory lane. Which Eurythmic song is your favourite, leave us a message and tell us why! As always like love share and follow!
