As the Diesel Forever Tour continues across the Nation, we at PopRock, had the great privilege not only to meet the man behind Diesel, AKA Mark Lizotte, but we were fortunate to see his performance.

I want you to cast your mind back to 1989 when Mark was the frontman of Johnny Diesel and the Injectors. Their debut album had massive hits like “Don’t Need Love”, “Soul Revival”, and “Cry In Shame”. Fast forward to 2024 and Diesel’s performance has just got better and better.

Set 1

Diesel, with his double bass in hand, steps onto the stage. The initial set, drawn from his blues collection, instantly captivates the audience. His storytelling prowess, evocative lyrics, and the sheer magic he conjures from his instruments leave us spellbound. He transforms his guitar into a rhythmic drum track, while his harmonica seamlessly melds with his soulful vocals.

Watching him perform, you’d be forgiven for believing there’s more than just one artist on that stage.

The Second Set

During the second set of his show, Diesel masterfully blended a mix of timeless classics and fresh tracks. The crowd, already under his spell, eagerly joined in, singing along to the familiar tunes—especially the previously mentioned gem, “Soul Revival.” But it wasn’t just the music that moved them; it was the collective energy—the shared heartbeat of everyone present. Several ladies in the crowd braved the venue staff and made their way down the front to have a dance-along, Kudos to them

Since the 80s when Diesel began his career, his voice has just got better and better, easily switching from the high notes to the lows, there was never a missed note or a sign of strain. Man, can this guy sing?

Supporting each other

My son has now just started his musical journey, and thanks to the amazing guys at “On The Map PR” and Diesel’s Team, he was able to witness a true legend of music. We even managed to meet up with The Legend himself after the show, he even signed our Vinyl “Bootleg Melancholy”. It was great to see him make himself available to his fans after the show to sign merchandise and grab a selfie!

It’s important as we come out of the pandemic, that we support our musicians (yes they are still feeling the effects), not only by turning up to shows but by investing in their merch, grabbing a CD or Vinyl, and buying a T-shirt or Hoodie, this is where they make their money so they can get out and about.

Without people like Diesel coming out to venues, we as fans will be the losers. What makes this show special, is that when other bands say they are doing a national tour they often forget about the West Coast.

To sum up, Diesel’s Forever Tour is a must-see, even if you are not a blues fan, after this show you will be! 10 Outta 10!
