It’ was 1983, and a relatively unknown artist was launch to the world. She had charisma she had a whacky style and she has one of the most covered songs in history. The album that changed our world is “She’s so unusual” by Cyndi Lauper.
So Cyndi’s first album “She’s so unusual, didn’t start any world movements as such, but was and still is an anthem to many women around the world, with tracks like Girls just wanna have fun, She bop and money changes everything.
One thing is for sure an album of mostly covers generated one of the most covered songs of all time. Time after Time has been covered time and time again, pun intended!
Time after time has been covered by;
American R&B singer INOJ recorded her version of the song in 1998. It peaked at number six on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart
Novaspace, a German Eurodance project, covered the song on their album Supernova (2003). It reached number six in Germany, number seven in Austria, and number 15 in Australia.
American alternative rock/pop punk band Quietdrive covered the song for their debut album When All That’s Left Is You in 2006.
Jazz trumpeter Miles Davis, perhaps the earliest artist to interpret the song, recorded an instrumental version of the song for his 1985 album You’re Under Arrest
A UK garage version was released by Distant Soundz in 2002 and was a top twenty hit in the UK, peaking at No. 20 on the UK Singles Chart
On Billboard charts for the week ending May 14, 2011, Javier Colon’s version peaked at number 65 on Hot 100.

2013 marked the 30th Anniversary of She’s So Unusual. To honour it and to thank her fans for its success, Cyndi embarked on a World Tour called the “She’s So Unusual: 30th Anniversary Tour”.
A part of the show, Cyndi sings the entire tracklisting of the record in the order it appears on the CD while telling stories about the production of the record and her life at the time she recorded it.
Like we said the album didn’t start any revolutions, but how many young women, danced in front of their mirror, hairbrush in hand belting out the lines to “Girls just wanna have fun”?
Maybe not a revolution or movement, but Girls just wanna have fun and Time after time are staples in any DJ’s arsenal of hits. It’s an album that unites women of all ages and cultures, that’s why it’s on our list of Music that’s changed the world.
