Australian pop icons Bachelor Girl return with the second preview of their forthcoming redux album Waiting For The Day: Artist Sessions. The duo release a hypnotic new version of Blind, featuring the unmistakable vocals of internationally acclaimed Australian artist Darren Hayes. The track marks a bold creative shift for the project and deepens the album’s collaborative spirit.
Bachelor Girl reshape Blind into brooding electro pop. The new version leans into atmosphere, tension and emotional restraint. The production introduces a darker palette while preserving the song’s emotional core.
Tania Doko reflects on the transformation.
“Blind might just be the most transformed tune from its original big sister on Waiting for the Day,” she says. She highlights the track’s minimalism. “I just love the haunting electro vibe James has produced, and it inspired what we coined ‘the girl in the cupboard’ out of me. I’m restrained, a bit tormented and sing or whisper deep betrayal almost through my teeth. It’s all about space and minimalism. Perhaps it’s a metaphor for not needing to shout to be heard anymore. Sometimes saying less, with conviction, is powerful enough.”
The track marks a deeply personal collaboration. Bachelor Girl and Hayes share a long history through touring and parallel careers in duos. Their connection shaped the decision to bring Hayes into the project.
Doko explains the intention. “We were hell bent on including our fellow artist buddy Darren Hayes onto the Artist Sessions album. Our history and friendship span decades through shared experiences of being in duos, and our touring together. When I sent the new Blind to Darren with just my vocals, he called me immediately, enamoured with it. He recorded his parts in his LA studio, and his MJ‑esque adlibs are in my top three moments of this entire record.”
Hayes describes his immediate reaction. “I get invitations to collaborate with other artists and most of the time, whether it’s timing or simply that I don’t feel like I can bring anything to the project, I politely decline,” he says.
He expands on why this track felt different. “When Tania sent through the demo of their re‑imagined version of Blind, I called her up immediately. And I’m not a phone person. The song was so exciting and inspiring I had to be a part of it.”
He reflects on the final recording. “I think the track is incredibly modern and meticulously produced. As a genuine fan of the band, it’s surreal to be a part of this recording.”
Doko adds that Hayes’ contribution elevates the track. “His fresh interpretation is unmistakably Darren, where he doesn’t just sing existing parts, but also creates ‘insatiable’ new hooks people won’t forget. More evidence of why Darren is the internationally acclaimed artist and songwriter he is. Lucky us.”

Set for release this June, the album reimagines Bachelor Girl’s double Platinum debut. The project features an all‑star lineup of collaborators across 15 tracks. The duo approached the album with ambition and a desire to reinterpret their legacy.
Doko explains the process. “We somewhat audaciously began to ask some of our favourite Aussie artists and friends if they would lend their voices or instrument to our bucket list project. What started with one became 14 artists on this 15‑track redux album, and we could not be more chuffed they enthusiastically said yes.”
Bachelor Girl continue to evolve their sound. The new version of Blind demonstrates their willingness to experiment while honouring their past. The track deepens the emotional impact of the original and introduces it to a new generation.
The duo use the project to explore new sonic territory. They also use it to celebrate their history. The collaboration with Hayes reinforces the album’s spirit of connection and artistic respect.
Bachelor Girl will take the project on the road with the Waiting For The Day Redux tour. The tour begins in Melbourne at the Brunswick Ballroom on 8 August. It continues through Brisbane and Adelaide before concluding in Sydney at The Factory Theatre on 18 October. Tickets are available now at www.bachelorgirl.com
