What a way to start the series Face Off. Two giants in the world of rock. Bon Jovi versus Daughtry.
It’s going to be a tough battle, mainly because Bon Jovi has been around for a lot longer than Daughtry, but lets just see how this pans out. Don’t forget to leave comments down below!
For now I need to put bias aside, and look at this objectively. We will start by comparing some stats from Wikipedia.
From North Carolina in the US,
Genres: Post Grunge – Pop Rock.
Years Active: 2006 to Present
From New Jersey US
Genres: Glam metal, Hard Rock, Arena Rock, Pop Rock
Years Active: 1983 to Present
Just from those stats alone we can come to an obvious conclusion, Bon Jovi has been around a hell of a lot longer than Daughtry. And Bon Jovi plays/ed to more genres.
At the time of writing I don’t have access to all the stats from the above services, but we may add in future edits, but lets look at some of the numbers.
On Spotify Bon Jovi has racked up 18,726,399 monthly listeners, and has 6.36M subscribers 6.36M subscribers on You Tube.
On Spotify Daughtry has amassed 3,164,198 monthly listeners and has 1.23M subscribers on You Tube
Those numbers are impressive no mater who you are. but let me remind you Bon Jovi has a 23 year head start over Daughtry.
Bon Jovi was around when You Tube started, they were around, and they had been performing in stadiums for years, they have toured just about every country.
Daughtry had to start in a saturated market, when music was produced via TV shows. Chris Daughtry Finished Fourth of the Fifth Season of American Idol.
I gotta tell ya, I’ve seen Bon Jovi Live, and they know how to put on a show. They have had way more record sales, and surprisingly have only had 3 Past members. But the thing with Bon Jovi he’s getting old, and the band seems to me, to be all about him, yes he is the front man, but there’s a whole band. And we cant forget Richie Sambora.
I have not seen Daughtry, in fact I was a late comer to Daughtry’s music, but I immediately clicked with it, his songs resonated with me. And the Daughtry band has had 3 past members.
The problem with Daughtry is that when Chris left American Idol and formed the band, marketing dictated the name of the Band because everyone who watched American Idol already knew him, so the band became about him by default.
Personally I think Daughtry is more down to earth and is more about his fans, just watch one of his short videos, he comes across genuine. Where I feel Jon comes over a bit more of a product.
I think Bon Jovi is on their way out, while Daughtry have every opportunity to keep going.
So for me I’m In the Daughtry Club. I just like their music more.
