This week we decided to go with a group of artists, that most of our readers or listeners probably know, but know little about. We could have easily made this an article about music we love to hate, but as you will find out, there’s more to know about the Sugarbabes.

Formed in 1998 by All Saints manager Ron Tom, Sugababes released their debut album One Touch through London Records in November 2000

Their debut single Overload was released on 11 Sep 2000 and was the lead single to the band’s first album, One Touch. They have released a total of 7 albums. Overload was used in a number of movies, most notably 40 Days and 40 Nights.

in 2001 Overload was nominated for the Best British Single at the Brit awards in 2001. in 2015 the English indie pop band Bastille did a cover of overload for the soundtrack of the 2015 film, Kill your friends.

Back in 2001, and Siobhan left the group and was replaced by Heidi Range. Heidi was an original member of the band Atomic Kitten, although she left the group before they had any success, or released any material for that matter.

With the introduction of Heidi, the band started to find more commercial success and went on to release 3 multi-platinum records.

In 2005 Mutya, left the band and was replaced with Amelle Berrabah, and they released a further two studio albums.

In 2009 Keisha was the final original member to leave the band and was replaced by Jade Ewen. They released their 7th studio album in 2010, they went on indefinite hiatus in 2011.

During that time they had 6 number 1 singles in the UK, The Spice Girls are the only other British Girl Group to have more.

in 2011 the original lineup got back together and began recording again. in 2015 Keisha filed for the Sugarbabes name to be trademarked in the US. She achieved the trademark in 2016, in Sept 2019 the trio were credited as the Sugarbabes for the first time since 2001. Their come back show was on The Graham Norton show in 2019.

The Sugarbabes are slated to headline the Mighty Hoopla festival in 2022!

In Australia the Sugarbabes was Push the button in 2005, however, they are huge in the UK and Europe, with multiple number 1 singles and albums.

As a Dj, having a Sugarbabes track in your roster is a great way to get people moving and groovin, Not everyone is going to love the pop tunes of the Sugarbabes, but here at PopRock Radio they rank high as one of the best girl groups around!

As always, Like love, follow and share. Leave comments below, Peace!
