Hey Poprockers, we are a bit late but lucky enough for us we found some new music, Cinderella by Royal Drue. Even though Cinderella was released last month (24th June) it’s still new, right?
We love playing new music on PopRock Radio, it’s like our mantra “We Love Music”, and we love this track from Royal Drue. CHECK IT OUT. We have not had an artist of the week for a while; so we reckon It’s Royal Drue, She may not have hundreds of hits, but this song and video, are a hit with us!
Cinderella has been released alongside a film clip that sees Royal Drue playing multiple characters that represent different sides of herself. The characters are symbolic versions of a “Cinderella” that defy the conventions of your typical Disney princess. Drue proposes “It’s a metaphor. Cinderella shows that you can choose who you want to be. You can be whoever you want to be, however you want to be, whenever you want to be”.
Drue continues “I want this song to empower anyone that listens, to explore and take ownership over their expression, sexuality and identity. If you wanna be a princess, then be a goddamn princess!”
Royal Drue has worked with an impressive list of Aussie favourites including Client Liason, Kaiit, Em Rusciano, and Young Divas’ Emily Williams. If you’re lucky, you will have seen her share the stage with Baker Boy as a featured artist at his headline St Kilda Fest show earlier this year. Drue is also a lead singer of the highly acclaimed Gospel/Techno crossover project Sunshine and the Disco Faith Choir.
Cinderella really impresses by showcasing Drue’s songwriting prowess. Taking inspiration from the likes of Taylor Swift and early 00s Katy Perry. Drue’s lyrics feel wildly present, almost as if she’s telling you the story in real-time. Cinderella introduces Royal Drue as a product of divas before her, Lady Gaga, Rina Sawayama, Miley Cyrus, Lizzo and her self-proclaimed “childhood hero”, P!NK .
Drue’s Lyrics are addictive pulling you in for more and more. This track is bound for great things, and could easily fit into a club mix. It won’t be long for this song to be all over the radio! And you all heard it here first.
