1996 was the year of cloned sheep, chess computers and the Royal House. It was also the year of The Calling, an American rock band that contributed to our lives with hits such as “Wherever you will go”, “Stigmatized”, and “Adrienne”.
Being a flawless combination of U2, Bon Jovi and Train, the band created ballad-like music that still streams and resonates through radios worldwide.

After the two band breakups in 2005 and 2013, the band got lost between continuously changing band members, recalled announcements and modern newcomers that took over their fame.
And after hits, such as “Wherever you will go”, we really ask ourselves, “Where are they now?”. So let’s dig deep and find out what happened to our beloved rock heroes from The Calling, during the last couple of years.
Fans were genuinely devastated by the end of 2005 when The Calling announced their breakup for the first time and vanished from the stages worldwide. But little did they know that this was just the start of an emotional rollercoaster that led to many changes for their favourite rock band throughout the following years.
Going from a legendary and renowned hit with “Wherever you will go” in 2001 to a line of lawsuits from ex-band members to their first split in 2005, the band headed from up to downs within years.
After their last debut in California in 2005, Aaron Kamin and Alex Band, the two founders of The Calling, called it quits, as Alex decided to pursue a solo career. Leaving his best mate Aaron Kamin with the sentence “I’ll call you when I’m done”, Alex never returned to the band.
While proceeding with his solo work, Alex still gave performances as The Calling alone due to bandmate Kamin turning his back on the spotlight. By avoiding any trademarks or credits towards his co-founder Kamin, he demanded full rights to the brand.
Even though that lawsuit never passed, Alex Band still continued to organize a The Calling comeback, which led Kamin to file a lawsuit this time.
The lead singer Alex Band was confronted with a rough time when being diagnosed with Parkinson in 2011. But that did not stop him from pursuing his dream of finding his way back to the rock scene.
In 2013 Alex brought the band back to life with fresh members, touring mainly Australia and the US. But just one day after the newly formed crew gave their debut in Atlantic City, Alex was abducted by two men and almost beaten to death, leaving him traumatized and in an emergency state. Just after a couple of shows, the band split again.
In 2017 the crew had their second comeback with new members, such as Daniel Thomson, Travis Loafman and Joey Clement. Alex and his mates even joined the famous US-American band Lifehouse on their tour in Australia.
The alternative rockstars from The Calling were often being confused with the LA originating band, to whom they also lost their guitarist Sean Woolstenhulme in 2002.
Nevertheless, in an interview in 2020, Alex Band spoke about the future of The Calling and their upcoming music. Unfortunately, none of this included co-founder Kamin who nowadays works as a writer and producer for other singers, such as the Backstreet Boys.

Become a Patron!Even though the heart of the band went split ways, The Calling is not a lost treasure of the past but rather a gem of the future. We are excited to be presented with a 2022 release of the new album, and who knows – maybe one day Alex and Kamin will put aside their personal issues and have a comeback as the band as we know it.
Where they are now might not be the situation fans imagined for their pop-rock heroes, but at least The Calling fought its way through many ups and downs and still surprises us with new incredible hits.
The American rock band gifted us with extraordinary Ballad music, an astounding, once-in-a-lifetime thing. No other songs could make nostalgia and sentimentality resonate through their rhythms and vocal tones so profoundly. And we could not be more excited to see at least one of the OG’s back on stage in 2022.
