Ed was born in Halifax UK in 1991 but bought up in Suffolk, where he started songs whilst in high school.

Ed released his first Album + “Plus” in 2011. Only 10 Years ago. Since then he has released another 4 Albums,  x “Multiply” Divide, No 6 collaborations and recently = “Equals”.

Ed has sold more than 150 million records worldwide, making him one of the world’s best-selling music artists. He has 84.5 million RIAA-certified units in the US, and two of his albums are on the list of the best-selling albums in UK chart history. In December 2019, the Official Charts Company named him artist of the decade, with the most combined success in the UK album and singles charts in the 2010s.

Globally, Spotify named him the second most-streamed artist of the decade. Beginning in March 2017, his ÷ Tour became the highest-grossing of all time in August 2019. An alumnus of the National Youth Theatre in London, Sheeran’s acting roles include appearing in the 2019 film Yesterday.

Plagiarism accusations

In 2018 Ed was sued by the estate of the late producer Ed Townsend. Co-writer to Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s get it on”. A previous case by Townsend’s estate was dismissed in 2017.

But what you might not know. that in 2017, the team behind TLC’s “No scrubs” were given writing credits on “Shape of you”.

Also in 2017 Sheeran settled out of court, over claims the song”Photograph was a copy of the chorus from the song Amazing, by X-FActor UK winner Matt Cardle.

It’s a pretty common occurrence, people suing for copyright, and writing credits, you can read about Olivia Rodrigo here, where she has been sued for similar things.

There’s no doubting that Ed can write a great song, the awards, the successes, collaborations, remixes don’t happen if you’re a flash in the pan.

And undoubtedly lead to court cases, think about how many songs sound similar, doesn’t mean the artist deliberately copied.

There is so much that has been written about Ed, but one myth we will bust is the Myth he was Homeless Busking when he found fame. He had been involved with music and musicians from his teenage years. So like they say it takes a long time to become an overnight success, and he is successful!
