If you’re a fan of the talent show “American Idol”, you’ll most likely know Chris Daughtry as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of the band “Daughtry”, who came fourth on the show in 2006. Despite this, there may be certain things that you may not know about the rockstar – here are ten facts about Chris Daughtry.

1) He’s the third most successful American Idol participant

In terms of record sales, Chris Daughtry is the third most successful American Idol contestant, only being behind winners Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. In total, with his band “Daughtry”, which was formed after his American Idol stint, he has sold over 9 million albums and 25.6 million digital tracks in the United States alone.

2) Chris worked at a car dealership before becoming a singer and musician

Before gaining success on American Idol, Chris was working as a service advisor at a car dealership in Greensboro in North Carolina, where he was still working when he attended his first audition for the show.

3) The band “Daughtry” has over 2.8 monthly listeners on Spotify

“Daughtry” still has an avid fanbase on Spotify even after 15 years of activity. Their track “Over You” has gained over 100,000 streams, and is currently their only song on the streaming service to do so.

4) Chris nearly fronted “Fuel”

After singing the Fuel song “Hemorrhage (In My Hands)” on American Idol, Chris was asked to front the band after their lead singer left, however, he declined this offer.

5) Chris is a father and Stepfather to 4 children

Chris is married to Deanna Daughtry and is a stepfather two her two children from a previous relationship (one of which has sadly passed) and a father to their twins.

6) Chris uses a Gibson ES-137 Guitar

Chris’ favorite guitar to use on stage and in the studio is his Gibson ES-137 guitar. He has also been known to use a Gibson ES-355, and a Gibson J-185 acoustic guitar.

7) Chris is an avid artist

As well as writing and performing music, Chris has another hidden talent – Art. He is most inspired by comic book covers and drawings and has showcased his own art on his Instagram account @Chrisdaughty.

8) Daughtry has collaborated with a variety of artists

As part of “Daughtry”, the band has had the chance to collaborate with a number of famous artists and bands, including Slash, Chad Kroeger, Theory of a Deadman, and Sevendust.

9) Chris has appeared in “CSI”

As part of their 100th episode, Chris Daughtry had a small role in “CSI: NY”. He played the role of “Machiavelli Taylor”, an attractive musician in his 30s.

10) Chris Daughtry has been nominated for 4 Grammys

“Daughtry” has been nominated for 4 Grammys throughout their career, all of which was in the year 2007. Despite this, the band has never won a grammy, with the awards for “Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals” “Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals”, “Best Rock Song” and “Best Rock Album” going to other artists.
